Crossover Songwriter/Recording
Artist
This California native
self-taught rhythm guitarist began writing
songs at the age of ten.
Her first
all original ten track CD, "I'm Taken" was released in January of 1999 in her home town of
Lewiston, Idaho. For 100 dollars a song,
enthusiasm grew in a soon to be recording artist. The day after production,
"Take Me To Paradise", an unexpected hard rockin' familiar 80's
sound, was aired on "Z Rocks" local radio station in the Lewis/Clark
valley helping to promote independent
artists. The locals favored
"Make You Mine", a raging up-beat highly danceable tune.
Leaving her Idaho family behind moving to Portland, Oregon with her brother, she dove into songwriting full
time. Elvis Presley, the Eagles, Beatles and pop legend Karen
Carpenter
were her stronger influences in addition to rock-n-roll greats such as
Led Zeppelin, Peter Frampton, ZZTop and the list goes on. It was Etheridge's
pounding rhythm guitar that prompted Joey to take her music on the road. With
one suitcase and a six-string Ovation, leaving Oregon one year later, she hitched a ride from a family friend
trying Texas on for size and taking her original music to the downtown streets of Austin. Rather than making Texas a palette for music alone, Joey D made Texas
her home.
After two years of storming the Texas Hill Country's clubs, local dives, biker
runs, endless festivals and town fairs with her rock band "Loaded Guns,"
Joey was signed to Indie label Sesame Records releasing a Nashville production
titled "I Like My Life"
in 2002 and was released from the contract in 2004. The
all original 10 track CD recorded at
Omni Sound Studios reveals the crossover potential in her writing and
vocal ability. "If I Were An Angel" a cool "Eagles" sound quickly becomes a favorite to first time listeners
as well as the stronger heart prodding "Never
Alone". With Nashville studio session musicians
like Greg Morrow slamming out the tracks on drums, Alison Prestwood on
bass and Dennis Wage on a screaming B3, who can dispute it's quality? "The
Better Woman", a feel good up-beat slogan for
competitive women who refuse to come in second at any cost, unveils her
determination and talent in combining lyric and musical hooks for a driving,
very danceable and radio ready country tune with massive hit
potential.
She moved to Houston in
search of a new band and became a member of the (HAAM)
Houston Area of Acoustic Musicians,
MyTexasMusic
and the
Houston Fort Bend
Songwriters Association. She continued to
develop her stage act with local musicians like singer/songwriter lead guitarist
Willie
B. Their collaboration and production of "Hummer for you",
an exclusive soundtrack to convince
the ex New York Yankee pitcher
Roger
Clemens to come out of retirement and sign with the
Houston Astros clearly brought out her rock influences over the years. This
soundtrack is part of a video interview produced by local Houston Computer
Network Engineer, Orris Brown's
LiveFromTexas
Video Productions where radio personalities Dean and Rog of
KKRW
93.7 "The Arrow" attempted to give Clemens an H2 Hummer to sign
with the
Houston
Astros. The track was aired on 93.7
"The Arrow" during the 2004 baseball playoffs. The video can be viewed at

Her 2004 demo released in Houston, Texas titled, "Keep
On Keepin On", a 14 track compilation of full production and acoustic rock
originals includes two cover songs, "Tea & Honey" a uniquely arranged rock
ballad challenging the lower register
of Joey's vocal range and "Please My Worried
Mind", favoring Bonnie Raitt's style written
by Local Houston singer/songwriter and acoustic duo partner Willie B, receiving
a nomination for song of the year by the Houston Fort Bends Songwriters
Association.
The
title cut, "Keep on Keepin on",
a rockabilly, upbeat
southern Texas drive in her "live" performance of the song, welcomes
local singer/songwriter Michael Pope putting in his two cents with the groovy
laid-back
Texas style bass line on the demo.
The
music video of the title cut "Keep on Keepin On" included lead
guitarist Willie B and produced by Gayland Gilchrist. Gayland is actively
promoting Local Houston bands by providing opportunity for affordable music
video's and a 15 minute interview available "live" on the internet at
G3Live.com. Gayland asked Joey to be the first guest for the program interview at
Houston's Hard Rock Cafe. The video was played on the plasma screens all around
the venue during the interview. Her solo performance of the song on her Dean
acoustic made a big impression on the venues patrons and manager. Recovering the
production quality of "I'm Taken", "Make You Mine" and
"Take Me To Paradise" from her first demo CD released in 1999, the
"Keep On Keepin On" record holds a unique blend of texture and
versatility while staying true to her rock-n-roll roots.
Joey's current project for the year 2005 will be an all original
"live" CD scheduled for a late release in October. "Runnin Thru Your Hair",
a rockin' Etheridge grind hovering throughout the vocal track leaving no
question about the sexual implications in the message recently recorded at
SUGARHILL STUDIOS, was
released as the bands first Single in July of 2005.
Joey's Texas music influences over the last several years have helped develop
her sound and style into a living Classic Texas Rocker. Working with her
Classic Rock cover band LoadedGunz playing the Houston and
Clear Lake areas as lead vocalist breaking out
her original songs on a pounding rhythm guitar on
occasion keeps her stage performance polished for the new CD and
solo show. Joey D known as The Rebel Spirit
of Texas is certain to become one the greatest artists of our time.
